about
Nemesis Please is a glam-stomping tirade loaded with Velcro guitars that buzz and jitter underpinned by a huge synth riff. A deranged party anthem for the end of the world, a hook-loaded, synth-infested track straight out of a fever dream that lyrically bludgeons the listener with its maniacal manifesto.
Borrowing a line from the Irish poet Brendan Kennelly (“If you want to serve the age, betray it”), the chorus is an agitated call to arms advocating all to defy what has gone before in the name of progress, to break away from the previous structures and paradigms to create something new - within the arts or life itself…. But perhaps our narrator isn’t to be trusted himself.
lyrics
The best way to serve the age is to betray
Half harbinger, half protest singer
I used to practice in the mirror
I used to spew forth from the rooftops
Eat your newborns and you’ll get thinner
Yes-a-yes isn’t it doomsday yet!?
Yes-a-yes I should assume so yes
I would do anything for the attention
Beware false prophets - I am one
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
My tongue it lingers for water
Pluck it out, just for the hell of it
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
We long, we hinder and falter
Snuff me out, just for the hell of it
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
All artists must be well adjusted
Visionaries can’t be trusted
They do as they say, they say how they feel
While they’re eating their succulent Chinese meal
A-yes-a-yes fifty percent or less
A-yes-a-yes taken off common sense
I would say anything for the attention
Beware false prophets - I am one
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
My tongue it lingers for water
Pluck it out, just for the hell of it
I shan’t leave this gilded cage
I shall behave, behave
We long, we hinder and falter
Snuff me out, just for the hell of it
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
Renounce the father, the warmonger
In his meat suit freshly laundered
Kiss your rictus, your tethered monster
You ain’t getting any younger
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
My tongue it lingers for water
Pluck it out, just for the hell of it
I shan’t leave this gilded cage
I shall behave, behave
We long, we hinder and falter
Snuff me out, just for the hell of it
The best way to serve the age is to betray, betray
